YSL Rouge Volupte Shine And Lipstick

Please tell me I'm not the only one who finds it beyond satisfying placing a beautifully cased lipstick on their lipstick stand for the whole world to see, but also find it even more satisfying when the actual product itself is just as beautiful.
Take the YSL Rouge Volupte shine and lipstick, for example.

Top- 8 (Rouge Volupte Shine) Bottom-1(Rouge Volupte Lipstick)

If you can look at this packaging and not immediately want to buy it, I applaud you.

Shade 8 is a you're lips but better rosey shade with tiny little shimmers running through it and shade 1 is a matte, more pigmented version (colour wise not formula). Both of which can be worn day/night and with many eye make-up looks. I prefer having muted more wearable shades so I can get a lot of use out of them for the price. I like to feel like I haven't wasted money, seeing as these cost £25 (!) each. The formula is very glossy, the only thing I could compare it to is the Revlon Lip Butters, but slightly more light weight on the lips. There's also a lot of pigmentation in these, with one swipe you get an intense amount of colour and they also leave a slight stain behind once the gloss has faded.

As much as I 100% say they are worth the money, I wish they'd add some sort of scent to them, like MAC's trademark vanilla, for added luxury. But they just thrash the competition with their packaging and formula and I know i'm not the only one who has succumbed to this. They also make perfect gifts.

Prom Make-up ideas: Look 2

I remember the only thing getting me through my GCSEs was the thought of prom at the end of it. The one night where us regular folk can dress up like celebrities at the Oscars and it be considered the norm. Getting ready for it had to have been the best part, I spent a good part of two weeks prior to the big day trialing different make-up looks from a simple winged liner to a full on smokey eye. So I've decided to start a mini series showing you different make up looks you could try for your prom as inspiration.

So here's the second look in this series. It's a bronze, shimmery smokey eye paired with nude glossy lips.I haven't included false lashes in this one, but there's no reason why you couldn't add them on,  after all, prom only happens once so you might as well go all out...

  1. Start off by applying your favourite foundation, preferably one without spf. Then go in and perfect your skin and cover any dark circles with concealer, then set with a powder
  2. Then prime your eyes and wait for that to do it's thing, whilst you move onto brows. Just define the brows for this look, fill in any gaps and just neaten them up.
  3.  Moving back to the eyes, I applied NYX jumbo eye pencil in Bronze all over the lid and blended it in with my finger; this gave a base for my Tan pigment by MAC to cling on to. For the crease I used the crease shade (warm toned shimmery brown) in the Wet and Wild Comfort Zone palette, then I went in with the definer shade (dark shimmery brown with a slight red tone) in the outer v. For the inner corner and brow bone highlight, I used the Collection work the colour eyeshadow pencil and then to set it I used the brow bone shade (light shimmery champagne)from the same Wet and Wild palette. I also ran the tan pigment underneath my eyes along with the definer shade in the outer corner.
  4. I lined my eyes using the L'oreal Super liner and winged it out slightly. Then apply a few coats of your favourite mascara
  5. Back to the skin, use a bronzer to warm up the complextion and contour. Then apply highlight for that glowy finish.
  6.  On the lips I used MAC Creme Cup and then Maybeline colour sensational colour gloss in the shade extravagant pink over the top.

Products used:
MAC face and body in C1
Collection lasting perfection concealer in Fair
Borjouis java rice powder

Benefit Gimmie Brow

MAC paintpot in Painterly
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Bronze
MAC pigment in Tan
Wet and Wild Comfort zone palette
L'oreal superliner
L'oreal false lash telescopic

NARS Laguna bronzer
MUA highlighter

MAC lipstick in Creme Cup
Maybeline colour sensational shine gloss in Extravagant pink

The warm tones used in this look are so flattering on many skin tones and would look especially nice if you're lucky and get a nice sunny evening for your prom. There's no reason that it can't recreated for a night out or wedding or any occasion really, just change up the intensity according to the event.

April Favourites 2014

Another month, another favourites.

My first favourite comes from a new addition to my skin care routine. The Vitamin E overnight serum-in-oil from the body shop. I bought this on a whim after hearing Amelia Liana was raving about the Vitamin E range and its safe to say it was a good purchase. I have combination skin, which is seriously dehydrated. (Trying to squeeze in 8 glasses of water a day is easier said than done). This serum is majorly hydrating without leaving my skin oily/greasy. I apply three drops at night and by morning my skin looks replenished, glowy and healthy. Whilst my skin is still no where near perfect, this serum is definitely improving the quality and the texture, making me a very happy bunny.

This month has seen me become a newly converted lip gloss gal and that's all thanks to Tanya Burr's lipgloss in the shade afternoon tea. It's a stunning nude shade, that is so pigmented that its almost like a lipstick and gloss in one! Whilst I'm not overly keen on the scent (sorry) the quality of the product makes up for it. Another gloss that deserves it's place on my favourites is the Maybeline colour sensational cream glosses. They're surprisingly long lasting for a lip gloss and are not sticky in the slightest. They come in such a variety of shades, I'm having trouble stopping myself from going out and buying them all.

This month has also seen me become a fake tan addict. As I mentioned in my Sheffield haul, my legs where in no way ready to be shown to the world. However as the weather is gradually improving, I decided I needed to trial a few products to see which ones would help me achieve the perfect, natural looking faux glow. One product I need to have a good rave about is the L'oreal sublime bronze self tanning elixir, whilst neither me and my sister can apply it properly (always use a mitt people), it has developed into such a gorgeous natural colour. With no biscuity vile fake tan smell and a luxurious glass bottle, this product is surely one I will continue to repurchase.

Another favourite comes from the Bourjois java rice powder. Although it appears to contain small specs of shimmer, once applied to the skin using a soft, fluffy brush, it diffuses all flaws and pores leaving my skin looking flawless. Its a matte, but glowy finish- it's magic, I swear. Seriously though, what is there not to love?

I don't tend to use very many products in my hair post wash, but there's been a lot of talk about texturising sprays recently so I tried some out to see what the hype was about. My favourite is the Charles Worthington volume and bounce texturising spray. It provides a matte look to the hair, but with grip and hold perfect for when opting for messy updos and the 'bed head' look. Plus it leaves my hair smelling absolutely incredible!

A nail polish favourite comes from gelly high-shine nail paint by BarryM in the shade Blue Grape. This colour is my perfect summer shade. Whilst I love my pastiles, they're just so predictable. This shade is so vibrant, summery yet a little out of the ordinary and the formula of these are spot on.

One stand out fashion favourite has to be my white high top Converse. I have worn them religiously since I bought them as they go with absolutely everything! They're also the comfiest pair of shoes own. As much as I love them being bright white and clean, I think I prefer most shoes when the look a little loved which is good seeing as I've already managed to get them mucky.

So that's everything I've been loving in the month of April. If this month has taught me anything, it's that I really need to stop spending.

I have a funny feeling there will be a few skincare related products in my next favourties as a result of the copious amounts of chocolate I've been eating over Easter and the dreadful effect it's currently having on my skin. It's just too hard to resist!

I hope you've all had a good month and that May brings good luck, especially those starting exams.

Prom Make-up Ideas

I remember the only thing getting me through my GCSEs was the thought of prom at the end of it. The one night where us regular folk can dress up like celebrities at the Oscars and it be considered the norm. Getting ready for it had to have been the best part, I spent a good part of two weeks prior to the big day trialing different make-up looks from a simple winged liner to a full on smokey eye. So I've decided to start a mini series showing you different make up looks you could try for your prom as inspiration.

To kick this series off, I'm starting with a simple winged eye liner paired with a bold red lip and glowy skin. Simple, yet effective.

To start with, I'd opt for a foundation that contains no SPF. The last thing you want is to be looking like casper the friendly ghost (unless of course your theme is fancy dress, in which case, go for it!)
Then go ahead and conceal any bags or imperfections. Follow up with a good mattifying powder to set your base and take away any unwanted shine.
Fill in brows, then prime the lids. I used a soft shimmery champagne shade washed across the lids to give added sparkle and then I lined my eyes with a black liquid liner and winged it out slightly.
Throw on a layer of mascara or three and then apply some false eyelashes, natural fluttery ones would probably look best with this look and suit most eye shapes.
I then warmed up my complexion by dusting bronzer round my face in the shape of 3 and then skipped the blush all together and opted for a pinky toned highlight. Finally I used a hot red liquid lipstick/stain to ensure that the colour lasts all night!

Products used:
bourjois healthy mix serum foundation- 51 light vanilla
collection lasting perfection concealer- fair
Rimmel stay matte powder- translucent

Anastasia brow wiz- ash blonde

MAC painterly paintpot
MAC all that glitters eyeshadow
L'oreal super liner
L'oreal false lash telescopic

NARS laguna bronzer
MUA undress your skin shimmering highlighter

Bourjois rouge edition velvet - hot pepper

Urban Decay all nighter setting spray

Ebay Haul

I've been wanted to get my hands on the Red Velvet Cupcake candle from Bath and Body works since i first smelt it in New York. But unfortunately the only sizes they did were the large 3 wick ones and I was too conscious of the baggage allowance, so didn't end up purchasing it. Anyways I'd found someone on Ebay selling it for just over £17 which was the cheapest I'd found it. Shortly after signing up to Ebay, they sent me an email with a £5 gift voucher if I spent over £10, perfect!... Except, me being me, I forgot to add the code before purchasing the candle and seeing as I still had this voucher, I decided to browse Ebay and found my self some nifty bargains.

After trailing through many beauty bloggers 'collections', I found myself adding the concealer palette to my basket first. Costing just over £3, I couldn't really say no. I've been using to it to experiment contour and highlighting with concealer, however all the shades are very orangey, so would probably work better when I have a tan. Overall I'm quite impressed, the quality of the concealer is very creamy and very pigmented! You can purchase it here

Next were some eyelashes. At about the time I made the purchase, I'd started getting into wearing natural eyelashes everyday to give myself some added length and volume. These hand made eyelashes looked the perfect style and for just over a £1 for 10 pairs, I thought I'd give them ago. I ended up buying two packs as there was nothing else I could find on Ebay to make it up to £10. But it wasn't a waste as these were exactly what I was looking for. You can purchase these here

I also couldn't resist picking up another sampler of the Yankee candle in Salted Caramel. This was part of their Christmas collection, however by the time I'd got a chance to go out and buy the bigger candles, they had stopped selling them. This is by far my favourite Yankee candle scent, it is so strong it left me and my clothes smelling of it when ever I'd burnt it meaning I could enjoy the fragrance where ever I went. You can purchase it here

The final thing I purchased was a Travelo, a super cute tiny devise that allows you to carry your favourite scent with you where ever you go, for top ups throughout the day, without having to lug around the original perfume bottle. From places like The Perfume Shop etc, they cost around £6, whereas from Hong Kong this only costs just over a £1. You can purchase it here

I payed just over £5 for all of these items (excluding the B&BW candle) and I'm ridiculously happy with all of them and the time they took to arrive.
I can see there being many more Ebay purchases in the future.

Sheffield Haul

I've got this very annoying yet satisfying habit of tripping, falling, inserting my card into the machine, typing in my pin and accidentally purchasing lots of items.
As soon as I go shopping with my sister, this habit seems to appear more frequently, which is all well and good for the shops but not so good for my bank account. Although, I must admit, this time was fairly controlled compared to previous trips, it definitely helps having a shopping list especially when it comes to beauty products. my weakness. It stops me from going wild in the likes of Superdrug and Boots.

So here's all the things i picked up whilst visiting my sister in Sheffield...

Fashion

I'm in LOVE with skorts but everywhere I tried them on they always came up too big on me and smaller sizes weren't available. However I can always count on Primark to offer some gorgeous ones, at low prices in smaller sizes. They can be worn for both day and evening, perfect for this funny weather were having in England at the moment- it's not hot, but its not cold. It's just meh. Until it actually reaches summer, I'll be pairing these with a pair of sheer tights, I don't think people are ready to see my pale and pasty legs just yet.

I also picked up two plain white tank tops from Primark, purely because you can't have enough basics in your wardrobe.

After years of trying on white high top converse, uming and awing and then putting them back, I finally bought them. I can safely say I haven't stopped wearing them since. Definitely a purchase I should have made a long time ago, they go with everything and they're beyond comfy. I got mine from office and used my student discount card to receive 10% off, even better. You can get them here.

Beauty

I'm quite proud with how small this category is. Firstly my sister was going to Spain this week and so wanted to achieve a faux glow for the first day. But both of us were a bit clueless as to what to get as most fake tans don't say how long they last (annoying) and we didn't research before hand. We ended up making two purchases, both of which were dreadful, smelt of biscuits and offered next to no tan.

On a brighter note, I ticked off another MAC eye shadow purchase in the shade Satin Taupe. It's such a beautiful shimmery shade that can be washed over the lid for a pretty, sultry day time look or it can be intensified for a more smokey evening look. This was definitely another Tanya Burr influenced purchase.
isn't it ridiculously satisfying putting an new eye shadow into your MAC palette?

In Superdrug, there was an offer on the L'oreal stand, where you can buy an eye liner and the Miss Manga mascara together for only £10. I was in desperate need of a new eye liner, as I had an allergic reaction to my Rimmel one which left me with a red, sore, itchy line in the shape of an eyeliner wing, beautiful. So far I'm loving the L'oreal super liner, its got such a fine nib which means I can get a very precise line with it. I've already used one tube of the Miss Manga mascara up and I love it!

Oh look another Tanya Burr influenced purchase, this being the Cupcake Lush fresh face mask. It smells good enough to eat, although I wouldn't recommend trying to taste it. It left my skin clean and fresh, this is probably my new favourite face mask from Lush.

Randoms

As we're slowing fading into summer, sunglasses are essential. Primark are always the best place for a good pair for a complete bargain. Next are a cute pack of earrings. I hardly ever wear anything in my ears, so I thought I'd try and get myself back into it by picking up a pack of ridiculously cute ones, again from Primark. Usually they irritate my ears but I have no problems with these, yet.
Finally I bought myself a re-usable cup from Starbucks, I'm forever taking tea/coffee/hot chocolate into school so this is so much more practical than lugging a mug around in my bag.

And that's everything!
Have a lovely day/evening,

Mid-Week Treats 2

Ok, so it's not exactly mid-week but I'm currently on my Easter holidays, which means too much free time spent procrastinating (baking) and not much revision being done. Plus I've been feeling pretty low this weekend and nothings better than whipping up a cute little chocolaty treat that I can enjoy all week long (that's if the other piglets in this house don't get there first).

Red Velvet Cupcakes.

This recipe is actually for a whole cake rather than individual cupcakes so just divided the mixture up into cupcake cases.

Ingredients;
225g unsalted butter
4 tbsp water
55g cocoa powder
3 eggs
250ml buttermilk
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp red food colouring
280g plain flour
55g cornflour
1.5 tsp baking powder
280g caster sugar

Frosting
250g full-fat soft cheese
40g unsalted butter
3tbsp caster sugar
1tsp vanilla extract

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees/ gas mark 5. Grease two 23cm/9inch sandwich tins and line the bases with baking paper (or set out the cupcake cases).

2. Place the butter, water and cocoa powder in a small saucepan and heat gently, without boiling, stirring until melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly,

3. Beat together the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract and food colouring until frothy. Beat in the butter mixture. Sift together the flour, cornflour and baking powder, then stir quickly and evenly into the egg mixture with the casting sugar.

4. Divide the mixture between the prepared tins (or cupcake cases) and bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes (for the cupcakes, I'd recommend checking them after 20 minutes as they don't need as long to cook) or until risen and firm to the touch. Leave to cool in the tins for 3-4 mins, then turn out and finish cooling on a wire rack.

5. For the frosting, beat together all the ingredients until smooth. Use about half of the frosting to sandwich the cakes together, then spread the remainder over the top, swirling the palette knife.
(For the cupcakes, divide the icing between each cupcake.)

Storage: I'd recommend keeping them in the fridge as the cream cheese frosting can go a tad funky if left out too long.

You can purchase the recipe book here! It contains 100 delicious cake recipes and it's a complete bargain!

Let me know if you had ago at making these by tweeting me @Olivia_DF using the hashtag #midweektreats

What's In My Make-up Bag?

So um, I don't really use a make-up bag, I have a draw in which all of my make-up is stored (and that's a whole other blog post), but essentially it is items that you use everyday, or regularly go back to. So with this in mind, I thought I'd show you what would carry in my make-up bag...

Starting with base, I've been reaching for the ELF mineral infused face primer on days where I know I have a lot going on to ensure my make up lasts. it just glides on creating the perfect canvas for make up. But I do think there are probably better primers on the market, I'm using this up before purchasing another one.

Next is my Tarte amazonian clay foundation, 10/10 for this beauty. It's full coverage without the cake and it's got quite a matte finish so I never feel the need to powder. However to cover any pesky blemishes I use the Collection lasting perfection concealer, a blogger favorite but with good reason. I just wish Collection brought out a wider colour range.

For bringing life back into my face as well as some form of structure I always use my NARS laguna bronzer, this is just an all rounder really and as you can tell, its well loved. It's also pretty long lasting, I've been using this everyday for about a year and its still going strong! I then bring some colour back into my skin using MAC mineralised blush in Warm Soul, a perfect everyday shade that goes with any eye/lip look.

For brows, nothing quite compares to the Anastasia brow wiz, which is why it's a product I will forever go back to. It gives the best, perfected yet natural looking brows.

Whatever eye  look I go for, I always have to prime my very oily eyelids (TMI?). The best product to do this with is MAC's painterly paint pot, it's incredibly long lasting! My favorite eye shadow combo at the moment has been MAC All That Glitters over the lid with MAC texture through the crease, they're both fairly neutral everyday shades with a hint of shimmer. Then the mascara that I keep reaching for is the L'oreal false lash telescopic, the thin brush gives a lengthy but defined look and it also holds a curl really well.

For lips I have been loving YSL rouge volupte shine in number 8, it's a balmy/glossy your lips but better shade and the the packaging is insanely beautiful making it difficult not to reach for this on a dull morning. Then for days where I just want a gloss, I've been loving the NYX butterglosses, I have reviews and swatches of them here

So that's everything! I try to switch it up as much as possible, so no doubt this will change very soon.

Until next time,

Liv xo

NYX butter gloss Review (Swatches)

(left-right) Eclair, Cherry Pie, Apple Strudel

(top-bottom) Eclair, Cherry Pie, Apple Strudel

I think I died and went to lip gloss heaven.

The formula of these are just phenomenal, buttery, creamy and not even the slightest bit sticky. They just glide over the lips for a beautiful glossy finish. I've also noticed they don't wear off very easily, I find after an hour, the product is worn down to almost a balm like texture. So overall quite long lasting for a lip gloss, as many that I own wear off after about 10 minutes!

The colours I own are:
- Eclair- a gorgeous light pink which looks perfect paired with Creme Cup by MAC
- Cherry Pie- a true red but when combined with my natural lip colour it sheers out to a more wearable every day shade.
- Apple Strudel- a stunning apricot/peachy shade, it's definitely the one I've been reaching for the most.
All three of these shades contain no shimmer at all, which is what makes them so wearable for both daytime and evening. They've also got a yummy sweet scent and cute bright packaging, they definitely wont get lost in your handbag.

NYX Butter glosses can be purchased here

(you can also purchase NYX products from Next stores, just check the NYX website to find your nearest Next that sells them)
